Do I have to used an approved repairer?
My wife has scraped the side of her car and we have decided to make a claim on our insurance for the repair.
I have a multi-car policy with Admiral with protected no-claims bonus (11 years!). My excess is £60.
We want to use a local body shop who come VERY highly recommended. We already have a quote for the damage which is just shy of £500.
My question is can I insist that my car is repaired here?
I am aware that this means I waver my right to a courtesy car, but to be honest I would rather miss out on that knowing that the repair work was going to be of the highest standard.
What is the general conscientious of opinion, am I within my rights to insist on this particular repairer?

Yes, you can use whoever you choose.0

You won't be able to go back to the insurance company if there is a problem down the line. But I would do it none the less.0

yes you can go where you want...if the shop is highly reccomended by someone you trust then carry on
alot of places are rush rush bodge it and scarper outfits ...so its good to use someone you trust0 -
Obviously if there price is far higher you wont get the full amount of the quote and probably the reduced quotes from their repairers.
Unlikely to be the case though.0 -
When going down the "traditional" route of using your own body shop, they will require 2 quotes. (Go to the garage you don't want for the first quote, then your chosen garage can ensure their quote is the cheapest).
(As you already had a quote from your chosen garage, get another from elsewhere and if it is more than your chosen garage then get them to do you another that beats the competion).0 -
Cheers Quentin.
This is exactly what Admiral have asked for. I have sent my wife down to the body shop we want to use armed with this information. I have told her to ask the guys there how they normally deal with a situation like this. We want to use them, so I am hoping they can "assist" in getting a couple of quotes that ensure that they get the business.0 -
They will be fully au fait with what is required, and should sort out the paperwork for you no problem!
(Glad to see the culprit is now running all your errands. What other reparation have you got lined up for her?)0 -

You seem to have a low excess but do you know how much your premium is likely to rise on renewal? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
