well i got my first 3 for speeding, on a road which looks like everyone does over 40... although shockingly it is a 30...and i got stopped for it, thsi was a while back

since then i was driving my mechanics car, as my is clapped out and i have taken his car for some time as he has put it in my name temporarily..

and last week he got a letter staing a red light incident, now i dont remember such a thign a ive been very careful since the first 3 points...but you nevr do
im assuming it was for me gettign close to amber then just going through ..

im sure i did no wrong except follow other cars.

what can be done about it

if i get 6 its license revoked meaning having to take test again..

i dont wish to reapply for my license and above all my insurance will increase...

please help
i know the points are bad...but i do understand this so please try to help rather then criticise my driving.

awaitng your kind feedback...

What gives you the impression that 6 points means losing your licence?

Have you not been long passed your test, and are a young driver?

And secondly. On your first 3 points, you say you got them a while back.

Would you care to elaborate with some dates?

    Ken.

sorry for the lack of dates

    i only passed last october

and im sure the rules are if i obtain 6 points or more in first 2 years of passing then its retake.... but after i retake the points are still there

    what can i do?

Does jumping a red mean 3 points too? My ol' mummsie did that and she just got a warning. I don't think there's anything you can do if they said they'll give you 3 points. Going forward you should probably get your eyes tested, and maybe re-taking a test would be a good idea. I mean, if you don't even know you're jumping red lights then you're a hazard and I want you off the road! If you're sure you didn't jump a red then ask them to prove it.

Check dates and times to make sure you were the driver to begin with. If you reckon it was you then you need a retake, both for your safety and ours.

Of course its rule breaking. Amber means STOP unless you are across the line or it would cause an accident if you did so.

It doesn't matter whether you think the rules are stupid, that does not mean you can just break them. You only passed in October. Did your instructor not teach you that you don't just copy everyone else? Did your mother never teach that? It is no excuse to say you followed the other traffic. If I had done that this morning, I too would have been one of the drivers pulled over for driving in a bus lane at a prohibited time because I wanted to turn left and there was traffic in the middle lane.

Perhaps it is a good thing you are looking at losing your licence for everyone's sake. If you had a bit more humility I might have some sympathy for you but I do agree you should a) check it was you driving and b) ask for the photograph of the offence.

Some stern words by fellow members.

Ask for evidence of the offence. Once if they have given you evidence and if you are 'adamant' that you cross when it was amber then protest your case strongly. No expert in the area, you may not get a 3 points penalty. Seek advice from people that are specialise in the area of motoring offence if you do get 3points.

Are you properly insured to drive your "mechanic's car", especially if there's a chance you have it on a "commercial hire" basis? If that all checks out then I'd take Arsenal's advice, try and get off and look to join the IAM.
If there are any grey areas regarding insurance then I'd keep quiet and pay the fine. It could get much worse.
    Can I help?
