I agree it can be in fits and starts.
I find Christmas, September (just as they go back), and May/June time to be the worst times at dd's school.0 -

I buy them because I can afford it and because I've always liked them. But if I couldn't afford it and/or didn't like the particular photo, then I would feel no compunction to do so. And I also take lots of my own photos of my children.

Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -

I don't really understand what the issue is; apart from school dinners it isn't an obligation to take part in any of the above.Just counted up over the last 2 weeks (Bearing in mind its only weds) and so far ive paid out

I think people should step back and also appreciate that whilst they are asked to contribute towards the cake sale, raffle and the likes, someone has gone out of their way to organise it.
Most of the fund raising at my kids school goes towards enhancing their learning or making the school a nicer place. I know that the school asks the PA to pay for new sets of reading books because their funds don't stretch that far. I think it is good that children ahve access to modern exciting books at school!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
In the past few weeks I've had to pay out the following for DS2
School Photos £20
Cinema visit £5
Christmas Concert tickets £2.50 each
Donation for Christmas hamper (box of Quality Street)
Trip to Brecon Mountain Railway £10
Not yet received raffle tickets!!!!!
That's without photos, hamper donations, raffle tickets etc for DS1. Flippin' schools must think that parents are made of money
It would also help if his Dad would stick his hand in his pocket once in a while!!!!!! OK Rant over:j0 -
OH & I forgot - book stall at school this week selling vastly over-priced books0

Our son has just started in the Nursery at his school,(3 seems so young)
we pay £1.50 a week for "healthy snack" everyday he tells me it is either apple or satsuma and "bad juice" to drink,I presume this is squash as he doesn't like it.
I was under the impression that children of his age were provided with milk by the Welsh assembly, his teacher said not so.
my problem is not the fact that the school is asking for the money but the way in which they are asking.
His last letter home stated that children could "wear spots on Friday for c.i.n if they paid a £1 donation.
Considering uniform is not compulsary in the Nursery unit and less than 1/2 the kids wear it I found that a bit cheeky.0 -

I do agree with agree you, i just read my original post and i think i worded it wrong, obviously the school dinners are compulsory(well apart from packed lunches)but if i wasn't happy to contribute to the others i wouldn't feel any pressure to. Theres plenty of paretns who dont/wont contribute for whatever reason at dd's school and nursery. The teachers certainly dont mind and no one is made to feel an outcast.
I like to contribute, especially for the charity ones, and most of them are charity as i think it sets a good example to dd's about helping people who need it.
As for the school pictures i only have them if i like them, didn't have dd1's last year as it was horrible, tbh hoping to give them to grandparents as christmas presents.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
Point of view from the school side ...............................................................
This term so far ......- photographs are optional ( wish it was for the staff lol)and buying them also optional.
- Year 5 &6 Victorian day at local museum £2 per child contribution.
- Y6 swimming £1.50 per week to pay for swimming teacher at pool to have smaller groups-each class goes for half a term
- Harvest festival - contributions of 1 food item to be given to local old peoples flats
- Christmas plays- parents asked to provide a costume
- Cooking lessons - no contribution from parents
We really try to limit the amount asked from parents but it is not possible to provide everything from the school budget..0
