Do banks still accept endorsed cheques?

I have a cheque written out to someone else that has endorsed it to me by signing the back of it. I know banks used to accept cheques that are endorsed on the back to be paid into anyone else's account but my question is do they still accept endorsed cheques or not.
If they don't does anyone know how i can cash that cheque. The person has just recently passed away and he owed me some money and endorsed the cheque over to me before he died. Any ideas?

I think Cheques are to the account payee only now.

Hmmm sounds a bit iffy to me.
The chap dies and just happens to sign the cheque over to you before handing you and kicking the bucket.
Give the cheque to the executor of the dad mans estate if your genuine....For everthing else there's mastercard.

You have lost your money - make a claim on the deceased's estate - good luck you will need it with a story like that.0

Cheques Act 1992.
Where a cheque is crossed and bears across its face the words “account payee” or “a/c payee”, either with or without the word “only”, the cheque shall not be transferable, but shall only be valid as between the parties thereto. What would William Shatner do?0 -
