Hi
The title says it all, a friend bought a latop from a high street store a couple of weeks ago and the CD drive doesn't work, she has tried to return it and been told that she has to contact the maker (Acer!) as its under warranty, Acer are telling her she should pick it up with the store.
Who is right and what can she do now?

what store is it???
its odd though, tbh both parties should be willing to take it on.
under warranty the retailer will just send it off to the manufacturer anyways
look under the terms of the warranty and see what it mentions about repairs and where to take it and use that as leverage
if not research the sale of goods act and go the the retailer explaining that it is your statutory right to a repair, replacement or refund (they pick which) for faulty goods and that you wish to exercise that right, or they could just od a warranty repair
i suspect theyll give in and do the latter.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
What is the exact fault, cause I've seen some Acers have a CD/DVD drive problem that's easily fixable (albeit by going into the registry).
Does the drive show in My Computer?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
TBH, as its only 2 weeks old the retailer, we could do with a name btw, should be offering a full refund or at least a replacement.0

Thanks guys, its PC world that are refusing to sort it out, I believe the drive is showing in My Computer."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Take it back to PC World, tell them you've only had a couple of weeks, show them it's faulty and demand a full refund or at least a replacement. Explain to them, as they should already know, that it the retailer that should be dealing with this.0

PC World generally refund/exchange in the first 28 days. Don't take waffle from the person at customer services desk, speak to the assistant manager or manager, try on a Saturday, the busier he/she is, the faster he/she will back downDogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0
