car tax refund

My car had an accident in October which Provident say is uneconomical to repair due to its age.The car ,at present,is at a salvage/dismantlers.I am in dispute with Provident re payout.I sent necessary form and tax disc to Swansea in last week of October and now they tell me they can't issue refund for remaining 11 months as I have to declare sorn or car has been sold for scrap. Neither of these options apply.Any ideas how I get my car tax money back? Thank You

Well you can either SORN it but then if it isnt off road thats your problem, accept the offer and "scrap it" or demand the car back keep it off road and SORN it and only return it once an agreement is made
At the moment its still your car and you remain responsible for the tax0 -
you need to send Section 9 (yellow) of your logbook (V5C Registration Certificate) to DVLA to inform them that you no longer have the vehicle. Put the insurance company's name/address down, date it left your possession and you sign. Don't worry bout their signatire, just leave that blank. This will remove you as keeper, and then your refund for car tax will process.
If you do not have logbook, then write a letter stating all above to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR.

Do not do this whilst your disputing their valuation. It could be seen as acceptance of their offers.0
