Home contents insurance

Hi all,
I live in a council house and cannot seem to get home contents insurance. I've tried applying at my bank (lloyds) who refused me because i was very honest and told them i had a criminal conviction for theft (a sandwich when i was 14 and i am now a very different person at age 26 i wil add!) but apparently it didn't matter what the conviction was for they couldn't insure me because of this.I tried AA who refused me because i am a student and don't earn enough and this was the same with a couple of other places.
Anyone have any idea of any company that will cover me for rates that are not extortionate? I don't have much but now that xmas is approaching and i've saved for afew nice things for the kids i realise how much it would suck if i was burgled-there would be no way of me replacing anything.

You do not have to disclose your conviction as it is 'spent' under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
Have you tried Endsleigh who specialise in providing cover to students?0 -
Thanks, i didn't know if it was 'spent' or not-just wanted to be honest but shall keep this to myself next time;)
I've never heard of endsleigh but will look into it, thanks0
