How long for an IB decision?

Hi all.
I am hoping some of you can help me.
I have just put in a claim for IB as my doctor has signed me off work for 2 months due to being recently diagnosed with cervical cancer. Even though I am ok right now, what with treatments that will most likely include surgery and then subsequent recovery, things are going to get worse rather than better quite soon. I am currently un-employed and up until the 25/5/06 was signing on just to get my NI conts paid. I don't get any benefits at all.
What I would like to know is how long (roughly) does it take to hear if a claim has been sucessful? Also the letter says something about a "work focused interview" in 6 weeks. What does this entail? If my claim is sucessful will it be backdated to the day I first made contact which was 1/6/06.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and thanks for any help you can give.

I cannot tell you how long your claim will take to be processed, but if you are entilted you will be paid from when you made your claim, minus three 'waiting days'.
You are required to attend a work focused interview as part of your entitlement to benefit, this applies even f you are not receiving any payments and just having your NI conrtributions credited (as you were when you claimed JSA). You should also attend even if your claim has not been decided.
Do not worry about this interview, it is not about forcing you back to work when you are ill, it is to inform you of the services available at you jobcentre when you feel well enough to do some work, and to let you know what support they can offer.
Please make sure you attend the interview when the appointment comes through or your benfit can be suspended. If for any reason you are unable to attend the appointment, ring the number on the letter to have it rearranged - make sure you take the name of the person you speak to.0 -
Hi, hope you dont mind me asking a question in this thread but it is to do with Incapacity Benefit.
Why would they need to have my last 4 pay slips to help assess wether my hubby will be eligible for Incapacity Benefit ?
Thanks.0 -
I think they normally only back date to when they received the form unless it was date stamped by them when sending the pack to you
IB is based on NI contributions.
The NI credits you get whilst not being in work, Im sure, are not counted towards IB...someone correct me if Im wrong. My mum had this a few years back but things may have changed since then, but was told the credits were paid to make sure she gets her full state pension.

Hiya Shelly
just wanted really to reiterate on what mrsh posted. Dont worry about your appointment at the jobcentre- workfocused meeting, is the term they give to all the app. They really wont be forcing you into anything, just making you aware of the services. Please don't worry about the app. Also, the reason the app is in 6 weeks time is because they expect to have your claim up and running and in payment by that time, personally, i'd give it a week, then ring, just to clarify that they've got your form, and just politely ask how long it will take to be processed, it depends on a number of factors, where you live, if your claim is straight forward, staffing!
Good luck with it and speedy recovery..RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

Incapacity Benefit forms are not date stamped, DLA forms are.
The credits received whilst signing on CAN count towards a claim for IB0 -
When we had to give up work last year our Income Support forms were date stamped and we could get it backdated to this date. Im not sure about DLA forms though.
Just been googling and have found that as long as its a Class 1 National Insurance credit, then this should be ok to receive IB. This is normally given if you receive carers allowance for example.
Is this correct Ted?

As I said DLA forms are date stamped.
As I also said the class 1 credits do count towards IB.0
