Primrose mill carpets?

Options
Hi, has anyone had any experience with buying from this company?

We're looking to recarpet the whole of our new house when we move in (hopefully before christmas). And are kind of stressing that for the first time we have to make these decisions ourselves and live with the consequences!!

We're keen to keep costs down but do want fairly decent carpet (well want it to last at least until we move out!). Having done my research here, we would ideally like to buy all underlay and grippers etc ourselves. Then either also buy carpet ourselves from somewhere like carpetright or primrose mill, and find a fitter to fit it all, or just order the carpet only from a local shop and have their fitter fit it.

I've had samples through from Primrose Mill and they seem quite a bit cheaper than the local shops for similar looking and feeling stuff. IE from the local shop their cheapest decent manmade stuff was £12.99, quite short pile and not that dense. Their cheapest 80/20 stuff was 14.99 for 30oz I think, going up by £2 a sqm for each 10 oz on top of that. From primrose mill we can get 80/20 40oz wool carpet for 11.78 or 50oz for 14.73 which looked/felt similar to my untrained eye/hand!
Just wondering if there's a catch at all...?!

If you've read this far, well done! :T Thanks for any help!

  • Hello,

In reply to your post about this company. I have just bought some carpet from them. I had reservations about buying carpet without seeing a big bit of it, the samples that I received were tiny but gave me a fair idea of what to expect. The customer service of this company was good; I was kept up-to-date with the order process and the carpet arrived as promised. I had it fitted by a local bloke and he seemed impressed with it. It's been down a few weeks now and I'm pleased with the look of it. Unfortunately so is my dog as he pooped on it last night. I've cleaned it today and it's still drying out. I'll let you know if the carpet still looks good after it's trauma....
    Kind regards, Tanya.
  • Thanks tanya!! I have a quick question, if you see this post again, was the fitter one recommended by primrose mill or did you just find someone local? As it said on their website they can supply fitters too.

Also was the carpet delivered direct to you? I'm concerned about having a big enough roll of carpet for a whole house delivered - the only place i think it'll fit is lying up the stairs!! (bit of a tight corner round from the front door into the rest of the downstairs rooms!)
  • Hello, sorry for the delay in replying. I got a local fitter to do the carpet, just one I have used before.
Regarding delivery, the carpet was shipped on the roll, it was due to be fitted the next day or so, I just had to store it along the hallway, another trip hazard in my home is not unusual, just makes life more interesting...
The carpet seems to have performed reasonably well in cleaning. I used a product called Host after getting rid of the solid matter. It's a dry cleaning compound, looks like fine, dampish sawdust.
I think I should really not have carpet in my home when I have an elderly incontinent greyhound and leaking windows. The carpet got very wet last Sunday, the torrential rain got in everywhere including the newly carpeted room, not a mark now it has dried though.
Hope you have decided on your carpet now?!
    Best regards, Tanya.
