I have just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and I have a HP Laserjet 1005 printer which worked with Vista.
However there are no drivers for Windows 7 and HP say it will not be producing any. The Vista driver do not work with Windows 7:eek:
Has anyone been sucessfull in getting a HP Laserjet 1005 printer to work with Windows 7 and how did they do it?

From sevenforums:I was having the same problems. It looks like HP released a new version on 8/15/2009, that is working just fine.
Select your operating system HP LaserJet P1005 Printer
1. Select your operating system (Vista for Windows 7)
1. Download HP LaserJet Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver (3.14MB)
2. Unplug printer
3. Install drivers
4. Plug in printer.
5. You're Done!
I tested on Windows 7 Enterprise RTM x64.0 -
I had already downloaded that driver before but it did not work this is the result I get from the HP websiteHP is committed to providing the best experience for HP products in the Windows 7 operating environment.
Today, a solution for your product is not available in Microsoft’s Windows 7. However, a full solution driver download will be available in late November 2009.
HP aspires to provide the most up-to-date information on HP drivers and software. Please check back for updates.0 -

I have found out that there are 2 different printers,
a hp laserjet p1005 printer and hp laserjet 1005 printer. mine is the latter and it is about 9 years old, I think. I replaced an older Canon printer with it when I got Windows XP as I had the same problem then, no new drivers.
Oh well, I will just keep Windows XP on a second hard drive and boot to that when I need to print something as I'm not buying another printer again just because of a new operating system.
I don't use it all that often as I have an inkjet printer that works with Windows 7.

How confusing for HP to have two products with the same name!
I had a multi-function device that HP no longer support for drivers but luckily it was from work and so it went back and I had a different supported one from the asset cupboard.0 -
I have a P1006 (slightly different) which is under a year old. No drivers are available for it at the moment.
However, I did find a workaround which involved trying to install the previous 'working' version of the software onto your harddrive (e.g. Vista/XP version) and if it does fail to install, then go into your device manager (click start button and then type it into search).
Find the printer, open the properties and go to 'update drivers' - then find where you downloaded the drivers to on your hard drive and try to search from the folder for the HP driver.
This workaround was okay for me, and the printer is working ok. I do hope that they provide an 'official' driver soon for my printer as it's not very good that it doesn't work when it's so young!0 -
pmhtuk, I have a 1005 printer not a P1005
it is not the same as a P1005 or P1006.

I had the same problem for 3 days.
I first used the printdriver on my CD - then downloaded the printdriver from HP and at last tried to install the hostbased driver. No luck at all and i was reddy to drop win 7 and go back to XP.
Then i just deleted the printer. connected with the usb cable and turned the printer on. After a while windows began to install the driver and suddently the printer works perfect.
I do not know why, but it still works perfect and even as a shared printer.?????0
