DIY - Damp proof course using cream?

  • Ok, i'm even more convinced it's condensation now. (Atleast downstairs anyway). A couple of days ago I removed the skirting boards and quite a bit of very wet plaster fell off the walls the whole way around. I also removed the carpets etc from the floors and opened the access hatchs to below the floor. Today I was onsite and I noticed that the wall looked dry rather than the usual dark colour I have been used to. I re-tested with the moisture meter and found that the brick that used to be under the plaster is now dry except the brick line that is touching the wooden floor boards. The plaster above the bits that fell off has also dried out. Very strange!
  • ...Just remembered, I also noted that under the floor in quite a few places there was a strong smell of damp and white crystal like powder covering the ground and going up the bricks to (but not on) the suspended floor. Not sure if that is related?

I had the same problem in a way, when I bought my house All the walls where wet, on the studded walls the plaster board came off when I pulled the wallpaper off. When I took the skirts off I found that the people who put the concrete floor in had only put the asphalt (black stuff) up to the skirts so under the skirts its just concrete, they did a cowboy job, so i raked out all round the edges and filled it all with the asphalt, never had a problem since.
