Why are you posting under yet another alias, Deluded Dad? People have got to know you as Harry Powell on here so please stop this nonsense. You're worse than Broderick's sockies.

How many times do I have to deny this?

It's tiresome, and to be honest I now have a "whoever smelt it, dealt it" stance on sock puppets. i.e. those who accuse others and go on about them are usually the ones who use them.

    It's not 'other' shorting.

It's the only way an ordinary investor/person can short the market.

The 'profit' comes from the 'loss' made by the person(s) who buy the Puts/Calls off you, or sell you the Puts/Calls.

My experience is that the big banks will generally hedge anything like this that they write so behind your trade may be a normal short sale that you don't see.

How do you define those who are guilty of such heinous crime dopester?

It sounds like a sweeping generalisation of everyone aged between 45 and 65.

Can you not effectively short the market by using spread betting

    You can.

Again, AIUI at least, the spread betting companies will hedge to cover their exposure where they aren't getting the depth of market for the market to hedge itself IYSWIM.
