Barclays Monthly Saver maturity question

anna42hmr: I'm glad you posted this because the search came up in google.
I also opened a fixed rate monthly saver on the 21st of November 2008. I just walked into a branch today in London and they presented me with the current balance.
Can you tell me what rate of interest you opened your account at?
There was an advert in an article in the FT the previous weekend. I thought it was 8% when I opened it. HSBC, Halifax and Legal and General where also offering 8%. I also opened a HSBC account at 8% too.
The balance I was shown represented interest at 6%. My fault I have no corroborating evidence I did actually open at 8%. Can you confirm?0 -

mine was 7.??% cant remember exactly, 7.49 sounds round about, they dropped the rate though and i think i just scrapped in at the rate, there is a thread on this forum with something like the title "any one opened a barclays monthly saver in december" that had the details of the rate change etcMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
Mine was definitely 7.75%. This is fixed
Those who open after a certain date received 6% gross, if I recall correctly.0 -
can any one answer me a quick question please
i opened up the Barclay's monthly saver on 21st November 2008, it is due to mature 20th November 2009 (tomorrow) does any one know when i can withdraw the money (ie is it tomorrow first thing, or does it mature at a certain time in the day, or overnight between the 20th and 21st november??)
i have the barclays e-saver so fingers crossed should be able to use that to withdraw into an outside account, or failing that can withdraw in branch
My monthly saver with Barclays has just ended.
I looked on-line the day after and I saw the interest had been added- so as it was the first time they paid interest in the middle of the month I was safe to withdraw it all: Which I did.
Two days later they added another 26p interest for some reason, which I can't withdraw on line, as it's under a pound. I suppose I will have to go to the bank to get them to close it.
My reg' saver matured on the 18th and I withdrew on the 19th. I would give it a few days and make sure all your interest has been added, than close if you wish or leave open.0 -

apparently if you give it a few days, the account becomes a "more for more" savings account, so you can always put some more in to take it above a £1 and then withdraw it??
i will check mine in a couple days as i transfered the money out already. thanks for letting me knowMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

I have a more for more already and that's where I transfered it to, but it won't let me transfer the 26p for some reason.0 -
I have just noticed that they have now converted it to a more4more savings account. That means I now have two more4more accounts.0

My Barclays Monthly Saver matured on Friday, thought it would be easy to close the account today, first I was told they can't transfer it to my bank account as it was a savings account? I could have a bankers draft for £10 though, then I could not have the cash as the teller did not have enough cash in his till, would have to join the line for the other available teller who did have over £3000 in his till. so after having to go through the security questions etc again I was able to collect my big wad of cash and walk past a couple of other shops to deposit the cash into my bank account. What should have been a five minute job at the most took over a half an hour. So any other non Barclays customers be prepared it is not straightforward as it should be to close the account."When the Government borrows, the citizen has to save".

transferred mine to my other barclays a/c today0
