Blooming searches

we're almost ready to exchange except for the fact that our buyers are still waiting on the local searches. It's been a month now
My EA rings me on a regular basis and says that our local council are very slow, apparently the council are holding up 4 of their transactions (including us).
I know there's nothing anyone can do, just wanted a rant

Chill
It's hard, but there's nowt you can do about it, so appreciate that it's all on track otherwise and do something to take your mind off it. I find a chilled to nearly freezing glass of white wine in the afternoon sun helps.
You deserve it! :beer:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

there are private search companies who are a great deal quicker than the council0

Phone the council and check that searches have been applied for on the property. Even if it's a personal searcher, the council will keep records. We were told the same story by the EA but found they were being very economical with the truth.0

Hi, going through same thing myself at moment.....
We are paying the solicitors for rush it through instructions, but the search application was sent on Monday, and this afternoon (Wednesday)the council department had not recieved it, and today, I was told it was sent second class in the normal post (not signed for!!!!)
On the plus side the very nice lady called Mary said when it arrived she would mark it URGENT and see it turn around in about 2 days!!! So no overly fault of council, just slack solicitors.....we pay 40 pounds extra for rush it through, but they don't even have the decency to send it 1st class for extra 10p!!!!A Gmac refund client : Letter of Confirmation received, now awaiting £311.04 cheque - Please feel free to PM me with any questions about the GMAC situation!

I'm having the same problem. Have been waiting ages for reply from management company on leasehold, then that's finally sorted and our buyers solicitors say that they still haven't heard back from council re searches. Top of the chain are going mad at the delay and we're having to phone everyone daily to keep it all together. They claim to have applied for searches at beginning of process - but that would be over 8 weeks ago - are they having us on?
To chase it up myself, can I just ring our local council and ask about searches on our property - or do I need details of solicitor who sent it or does our buyer need to do this? Can we pay the council to do it quicker - and who are these private companies who can do it?!! Any help appreciated as getting so stressed by delays...0
