would this not be a good thing for people trying to 'repair' their credit rating??, just buy something cheap, pay for it when the statement arrives, and then do not use again(or only for something cheap)
that way it shows as a 'good' credit account:confused:

  • This was featured on TV - Watchdog I think - a couple of weeks ago - they have said they will change the website and stop the practice in January...rather conveniently after the Christmas sales.

Same thing happened to me, I assumed I was about to pay with my debit card, in the same way I just had with purchases I'd just made from M&S and Debenhams, when in fact a Next account was opened instead.

Reading T&C properly aside, the process is not transparent, devious and misleading.

When I phoned customer services to cancel the account and pay the bill by debit card, the advisor sounded as though she'd heard it all before and there was no problem doing this and I received written confirmation promptly.

Dislike this very much though, not impressed with Next on this occasion.

I sent them an e-mail to complain and they told me that they would close my account once the product they had sent had been returned. I didn't accpet the delivery when it came yesterday so hopefully soon they will be closing my account.

But I did go in the Next shop today and get the same coat ordered to be delivered at the store and I have already paid for it, I just need to pick it up next week. Had I known before that it's possible to do this, I wouldn't have bothered using their dodgy website in the first place.

This also happened to us when we ordered some furniture it really isn't all that clear and I assumed as the usual information such as a proof of ID, DOB and so on wasn't given they wouldn't be able to process a credit agreement and I clicked on through expecting a payment screen and it just said order complete!

Had to cancel the whole lot which was messy and I have sympathy with the OP - you're not alone!
