Electrical Help

Options
I recently paid an electrician to fit some lights in my home and he charged £100, but nowI have another light that needs fitting and I can't pay more money to the eletrician. So I tried to fit it myself and have blown the lights. Most lights work in the house except the room next to the one I was fitting the light in. The fuse box is a modern one without fuses but just switches, i have reset them all but still the lights don't work, can anyone help?

any help appreciated.

  • Wiring lighting circuits isnt straight forward as a normal socket circuit, as the switching cable can be positive but use the negative colour. Did you connect all the same colours to each other in the in the light fitting??? as light fitting require a different arrangement, and this depends on how the light and circuit is set up.
To be honest its best left to the proffessionals.

Turn off the power, disconnect the new light that you have been trying to fit, ensure that all the wires are back where they started and turn it back on again. Hopefully all of your original lights will work again.

Then you need to come back and ask about connecting the new one back in!

I take it the references to positive and negative are ironic.
