Oh I 've forgotten my router password oh joy. I've accessed my router admin page and tried all the combinations i could think of. failed. So I decided to go for a factory reset. first of all I back up my router config to a file then did the reset. reset worked I had no router configuration so then imported the settings back expecting to be able to then apply another password only it seems to have applied the old password which I don't know so back to square one. any clues? I'm on the line to my isp hoping to get through and they'll help me. thank you Zoe

What router have you got?0

Is it Apple router?0

Physically resetting the router should take it back to the factory setting and allow you to change passwords - you need to have the router in your hand to do this, so not really a security issue.
Is it an O2 router - they've been remotely changing passwords recently.0 -
How do you backup settings if you can't get past the login screen?
Is it the wireless password you are after, or the admin password, the former will be in the wireless settings page.!!

yeah if you restore the backup it will go back to the old password
get the correct settings from your isp, factory restore the router and redo the settings0 -

Yeah, mine was remotely changed by O2 to the serial number of the router.
Otherwise you might find you default password once you've done a factory reset on this site.

open the config file in Notepad or any text editor, the password will probably be in there in plain text.0

1) Most routers don't store it in plain text
2) It would only be a security risk if someone could get access to your pc and get the config file0
