Strange email from Scottish Power
OH and I are moving out of our rented flat soon to a rented house nearby, now we haven't told our energy supplier Scottish Power that we're moving yet as we've only just handed in our notice and have yet to confirm a moving date.
This evening OH received an email from Scottish Power saying they were sorry we were leaving them! we haven't a said a thing to them so we're wondering what gave them the idea were changing supplier?
Any ideas?

I would contact SP and ask them.
Perhaps some kind of mix up with a neighbours meter, a neighbour who has asked to switch supplier?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Yes I'm going to call them tomorrow as they close at 4.45pm(!) so I missed them tonight.
We don't have any neighbours as our flat is in a building occupied by only us and an accountants downstairs. They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

Hi Liz3yy
I hope you get this matter resolved today.
If you receive a letter from SP saying that we are sorry to hear you are leaving this normally means that we have received an application from another supplier confirming they are taking over the supply. If you speak to our Customer Service team today they will confirm all details for you.
The Customer Service team can be contacted on 0845 2700 700 between 8am to 7pm.
If an application has been made without your approval, like Premier says, this could be another property where by an application has been made and your supply details have been used in error. If this is the case, we can try to stop the transfer if we respond early enough or if not, we can process an Erroneous Transfer to return the supply to SP and you will be billed as if you never left in the first place.
I hope this information has been helpful. Good luck.

Its possible your letting agent has already arranged new teants to move in at some point after your expected leaving date. (they may not have a date from you but i magine there's some form of contractual notice period which they have used to estimate this). And the new occupiers may have arranged for another provider. A little bit naughty as they're not responsibile for the energy bills yet but its a relatively common practise.0

In your OP you say you have handed your notice in.

Yes at the time we had confirmed to the letting agent for the new house but not to the agent for where we live at the moment! of course we have now and a moving date is arranged
OH called Scottish Power to complain, they said they would look into it. We received a letter yesterday saying they had received instructions to transfer our supply to British Gas! anyway, we've told them this is wrong and they are working to solve the problem for usThey have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

An update, OH spoke again to Scottish Power this week, they said as compensation for this situation they are offering to reduce our monthly bills, we'll be saving about £20 a month
