how can i get metallic paint for free?
I am looking to buy a new car and i spoke to a salesman yesterday about getting metallic paint for free.i told him i was prepared to give him a deposit if he would give me the metallic paint for free.he said he would get back to me tomorrow as he has to ask his boss first.i am already getting money off through the scrappage so if he rings back and says no i cant have it for free, what things can i come back with so persuade him to rethink it?

How much is the metallic paint worth?0

This is the problem with the scrappage deal. They think they can tell you you're getting a great deal already and people are flocking at dealers brainwashed thinking they're getting a good deal. I think chances of scrappage + free metallic paint are low. Remember the dealer has to take a hit of £1000 with the scrappage scheme, the Government only provides £1000.0

its roughly £4000

Having mystery shopped this scenario a few times, you are unlikely to succeed. The only thing worth doing is approaching a number of dealerships, show them how keen you are to buy and then telling them that you will sign today if they will give you free metallic paint. You need to have your finances in place and convince them that you are a serious buyer. You may well still get knocked back, but keep pushing for it and you might be lucky.
Your best bet probably is if they have a showroom car in metallic paint that they are looking to shift. Worth a try but don't get your hopes up too much.0 -
Either that, or I would ask for some extras near to the value of £400 thrown in, and just pay for the metallic paint if you get me?
A lot of manufactures wont give you metallic paint for free, however, it doesnt stop them from discounting the car price like they did with me.... but I am not using the scrappage deal, and they are getting my current car which they will put straight onto their forecort for a grand profit!0 -
I don't get why they charge more for it anyway. When you buy it it's the same sort of price as solid colour, and if you get a car sprayed, it's usually no extra cost to get it done in metallic.0

they have a car available which isnt my first choice of colour but i still like it.they have it cause someone ordered but changed their mind so i reckon they already have had a deposit for it0

You have more chance because the dealer has it in stock, just tell them you will have to shop around to find one in your chosen colour or you may accept the stock model if they will give a discount equivalent to the metallic cost.
I once did this with a new Honda, I had decided never to pay for metallic paint again and ordered a new civic in red, because they wanted the deal all signed and delivered before the end of the month and couldn't get a red one in time, they had to "talk" me into a nice metallic blue for the same price. Needless to say I took some "talking round" because they first offered it at half price but when I refused they gave in. It's a different scenario but it worked. Stick at it you never know.

Not quite, the manufacturer not the dealer takes the £1000 hit, but of course they have all put up prices by more than a grand since the introduction of the scheme, so it ain't really costing them anything.0
