am I being ripped off?
We rent a room one evening a week for a meeting for 4 hours for about 47 weeks a year. In the Winter months we use 2 small heaters during that 4 hours.
The landlord has equated the electric at 2147 units at 13.997 per kwh for
the year(on top of the hire of the room charge)
Can anyone work out how much per evening he is charging please:mad:

about £6pn0

That is what I equated approx. so is this excessive bearing in mind in the Summer months we just have a couple of lights on. Does anyone know where I can get realistic charges to challenge him?0

Bear in mind that nobody is allowed to re-sell electricity for profit.
His charges are reasonable. ie. the 13.997p
The level of consumption(2147kWh) seems high.
You are being charged for 46kWh for 4 hours for all 47 weeks.
2 large heaters of 3 kWh would only use 24kWh in 4 hours.
Does he have on heating before you arrive?0 -
No we put on heaters(small)
He says he is not reselling but the room is in a separate building with a separate meter0 -
if your a BG customer, register for EnergySmart and they'll supply an energy monitor, then take it with you and you'll have your answer.0

If the meter is in the same room, just take a reading when you arrive and when you leave, and then you will know what the actual usage is and whether his charge is justified.
I would have thought that the main variant here is how many of those 47 weeks do you have the heaters on for? The cost of a few lightbulbs for 4 hours without any heating is insignificant. Let's say the heating is used for 24 weeks only-that means you are paying more like £12.50 each time-that seems absurdly high.No free lunch, and no free laptop

How many months of the year do you call 'the winter months' - ideally exactly how many sessions last year did you use the heaters? How much power do the heaters use at full pelt (KW)? Is the room freezing when you arrive and do you leave the heaters on the highest setting for the entire four hours? Can you find an alternative room to hire?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
