Replacement for GU10 50W Halogen

Options
Has anyone tried the 'wide' angle 4W LED bulbs that are available (I think they have 3 LED's - maybe CREE type)? Previously I tried 28(?) and 36(?) LED GU10 replacements, but they were as bright as a dim candle, as well as providing a narrow spot illumination. I really need a wide cone of light as its for the kitchen. We're back to using halogen (3 x 50=150W) until I find a viable replacement.

There's a number of manufacturers producing compact fluorescent GU10 replacements. I've fitted some Megaman 11W GU10s (50w equivalent) and they are very good, very bright, wide-ish angle. Only downside with the Megaman bulbs is they are longer but you can get them with a replacement fitting designed to accommodate the increased length - cost ~£13 each including the fitting.

  • i found buying new gu10 lamps with the energy saving lights in was cheaper than buying the bulbs

i bought pack of 4 downlighters from b and q for £12 and threw the holders away!

Not sure if they are still at that price though
  • I have some LED Lenser torches that use CREE chips and they are flipping bright!

  • Got one as a Xmas gift last year.

Bought myself an LED Lenser P7 from ebay for about £45.

I need new downlighters for my bathroom & have been watching these threads with interest.
It seems they are still in their infancy?

I guess I should get the fire proof ones as they are going into the loft.

My current ones some of them can't be unscrewed to change the blubs (special bathroom ones that are susposed to be protected from water:rolleyes:) & the chrome finsh has gone funny one one too:rolleyes:]

So I need some new GU downlighters (bulbs & units) & I want energy savers but I'm still confused as to what ones I should buy:confused:
