Good to "see" you too, Michelle!
It feels sooooo good to be overpaying, even if it's only a drop in the ocean in comparison to some (like you!). I feel incredibly smug that whatever we overpay comes off the capital bit and I'm sure I get a little annoying sometimes with it. However, our mortgage deal is fixed at 5.99% for a total of 5 years (got another 3.5yrs to run on it) and I'd love to get to 75% LTV at the end of the next 3.5yrs in order to get a MUCH better interest rate. Alternatively, we hold out for a lottery win!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Most of our success this year is down to different places like student loan and inland revenue overcharging us, and tax credits underpaying, and they all had to pay us money. We have done without it while they messed us about, so I just paid it off the mortgage. I think if I were still working it would be gone now, and the kids would have had all of the trust fund allowance paid into every year, but I would not be as happy as we are.
Don't forget I am a few years further down the line too seems though we bought in 2004, and we have never had a rate as high as that. It was 4.99 for the first 5 years, and now only 2.5%.
A lot of this can be down to luck can't it, although the whole thing is never far from my mind.
Are you planning on posting more then? I see you on FB occasionally, but not on MSE for ages.0 -
Hello & welcome from me too, albeit belatedly :hello:. You're almost a neighbour as I am only 15 miles from Rutland Water - I was out there last week to see the ospreys
.
Hope to see you posting more often, well done on your overpaymentsA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Sure is luck! Definitely doesn't help that DH hasn't had a payrise for 3.5yrs (although he is getting an "inflationary" one in August) however, we are truly thankful that we both have a job.
And yes, I'm planning on posting much more. These last few months have been downright hectic and I've barely had time to do "nice" stuff when I've got home from work.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
Hi gallygirl - almost a near neighbour! I also see that we joined MSE a whole month apart, back in 2004! :beer:Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0

I'm back online briefly! I've done the first week of my "holiday" job and I keep trying to add up how much I've earned and how much I can realistically overpay the mortgage by. I haven't come up with a figure yet, but I've also got to sort out some money for a new patio door. The one at the moment is a 1970s original and not the most efficient. It's good to have this extra money, especially as it means that I am not tempted to go shopping all the time in the school holidays - I have no time!
Budget-wise, we're looking good at the moment. I need to reassess for the start of the new school year in September and sort out a new meal plan to try to vary what we eat (and not just spag bol or chilli con carne all the time!) whilst keeping costs down. I'm confident that our energy tariff is as ok as we can get, which is at least a positive thing...
DH is busy looking for a new job: he hasn't had a payrise in 3.5yrs and the latest pay "review" a fortnight ago his boss promised him a payrise of "inflation" but he hasn't confirmed which inflation rate he's working on. DH did press the boss, but.....
Right, I'll take my ramblings elsewhere. Have a good week everyone!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0
