Bathroom ceiling extractor fan

Hi,
I have a ceiling mounted bathroom extractor fan thats starting to go wrong. Its mounted directlyover the bath/shower and has recently started making some horrible grinding noises. The fan has a white grill in the bathroom, above this is a metal box with an inline fan ducting up and out via the house roof. Is it possible to buy a new internal fan to replace the current one? I don't want to replace the whole lot, the current setup is quite big. All the replacement whole units I've found would require redecorating which I just can't face right now!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Can you work out who made the current unit, and then contact them and see if either they can supply a replacement or they can point you to someone that can.Adventure before Dementia!0

The makers id label has worn away over the years. Its almost impossible to get any details on it. I'll have another good look now.

Chances are that it's a standard fan with the normal wires and 4-inch hole to the venting pipe. Very simple to replace, but be aware there all sorts of regs the govt imposes on this kind of electrical work in a bathroom.
Alternatively, it might just want some oil or a clean.0 -
Hi aliman,
sounds like you need an inline centrifugal extractor fan, the ones i've fitted are the nuaire genie mx (i think), piece of cake to replace
you can get directly from nuaire or you can get from a couple of places.
the only place I definately would not get one from is a supplier who has to remain nameless, they are based in the south west of the country, sell nuaire gear and havn't got a clue what they are selling.
If you want the name of my supplier pm me and i'll send you it over
hope this helps
DDThe advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
Don't like what I have to say? Call me on 0800 KMA;)0 -
Thanks for all of your replies!
I'm going to tackle dismantling the guts of this thing in the next few days to see if theres a part number on the internal centrifugal fan. I'll give the current fan a wee clean and oil as suggested and see if this gives me more time to source a replacement.
Cheers
