You'll still need to inform your insurance company of the collision.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

So if I offer to pay for the whole lot should I ask the guy to get more than one price for the repair? To be sure he's not trying to pull the wool over my eyes?
A wing mirror for a Saab can't be that much. I lost my whole wing mirror and driver's side window and that came to £300!
Tell him how much yours cost and say you expect it to cost the same amount (Remember though some newer cars have wing mirrors with indicator lights on them.)
And get it sorted out asap without too much arguing otherwise he will go through insurance. In fact if possible go to the garage and pay the bill for him even if it inconveniences you i.e. you have to leave work early.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
You'd be surprised. A replacement wing-mirror on my father's new Volvo was £590! Heated, electronic position, puddle lamps, outside air temp sensor, indicator light and christ knows what else in it.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

OP, excess only applies if you claim for the damage to your own car, it doesn't apply to third party claims.
As you've fixed your car already then if the other car claims for his mirror you will not have to pay anything. (apart from the increased insurance premiums you’ll face).0 -
Vaio is completely right on this, thank you.
I have spoken to Direct Line, and because my car is not being repaired I am fully covered on any repairs to the third party's car.
I am not required to pay any excess, but I will face the loss of my two years' NCB.
As I've said though, I will most likely talk to him and offer to pay for it and avoid a 30-40% increase in premiums!
Thanks to all who replied.0 -
Can you not settle your insurance company's costs with them and keep your NCB?0
-
yep, he can and will keep his NCB but obviously his base premium is going to go up0
