They can still require you to submit to a roadside eyesight test at any time. A constable only needs "reason to suspect".Chippy_Minton wrote: »But remember, it's not until you tell the DVLA that the police will readily know you need them to drive.
That isn't a legal issue as the law only concerns "uncorrected defective eyesight". If it's corrected, section 96 is neither here nor there.michaelvintner wrote:Could be argued that the fact you are now wearing glasses means that you have had a recent eye test and wearing them means that you are correcting an inperfection in your eyesight.
Wearing glasses to meet the eyesight standard does not affect risk, so you do not need to inform an insurance company, unless they've specifically asked you to. If your eyesight deteriorates in the future and correction with glasses or similar does not work (that is, you cannot meet the eyesight standard for driving at all), then you must not drive and must inform DVLA. At this point, you must inform your insurance company too.0 -
You do not need to tell your insurer or DVLA. Although some countries require you to carry a spare pair it is ESSENTIAL that you do anyway, I once got caught out when I accidently broke my glasses in a petrol station and I was stranded because I didn't have a spare pair with me and I cannot drive without them. Lesson learnt, common sense really.0
