mortgage protection insurance can you reclame

Hi am wondering if anyone can help, we have just found out we have been paying £20.00 a month for mortgage protection insurance which we have had for about 4 years we thought it was my husbands life insurance, and it wasnt untill a few weeks ago that i contacted them to update the life insurance that i found out its wasnt his life insurance, Iam wondering can we relame this money back??? it is for sickness, not unemployment, my hubby has recently been diagnose with cancer and is self employed so off work and we were going to make a clame on it but it will only pay out about £600.00 and we have paid so much more into it over the last 4 years
????????? Any helo is great thanks :o

    Hello and welcome.;)

As this is in regards of mortgage protection, I think Dunstonh will be able to advise you on this one here.
So sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis and wishing him a speedy recovery.

No. You cant just claim back insurance premiums willy nilly.
it is for sickness, not unemployment, my hubby has recently been diagnose with cancer and is self employed so off work and we were going to make a clame on it but it will only pay out about £600.00 and we have paid so much more into it over the last 4 years

Is it a mortgage payment protection plan without unemployment cover or a permanent health insurance? (the latter is often used, and correctly so, for self employed).

Is it £600pm as its unlikely £20pm would pay out just £600. At least not on an income protection plan.

Sorry to hear about your poor hubby. Is the £600 the total amount you could reclaim on the policy? You say you thought it was life cover but it was actually sickness cover? How was it sold to you and what were you told it actually covered. I know dunstonh has left a post above and is good at dealing with mortgage complaints but just wondered if there was perhaps anything else you needed to add.
