HELP! Quickbooks has died! (Windows update problem????)

Please help a struggling charity.....
My administrator worked on QB on Thursday, and when she came in again on Mon it simply wouldn't load. She's tried deleting and reinstalling, and we have done system restore back as far as we can go. Computer is running bl**dy vista and Office 2007, and I suspect a windows update of screwing things up, especially as we suddenly noticed a McAfee install logo appear in the start menu (was NOT there before, and we've deleted it - we can't find any reference to McAfee in the progs files).
I am willing to try a restore again with auto updates disabled, if someone can tell me how to disable them - any other ideas?
