Any ideas how I can rejuvinate my sofa?

Options
:oMy sofa is dying - I've been trying to find somewhere I can buy ready made covers but they all appear to be made to measure and cost as much as a new one or they are made of nylon (YUK!)! I have it covered with a throw at the moment but this is driving me to dispair as the sofa is made up of 6 cushions which constantly fall and then I have to keep remaking the stupid thing and putting the throw straight!!! I don't think I can cope over christmas with my 3 sweeties jumping all over it. (I had been praying for a sofa to come up on freecycle but no luck so far!)Anyone got any ideas???:eek:

Try the freebie section on gumtree.com in your area. There are loads of things posted on there and if you register an automated email gets sent to you everyday with the new freebies added in your area.
I am a first time buyer and needed a sofa. Picked up a brand new ikea 4 seater off ebay for £40.00 bargain!

oh you are so right about the 'throw solution'. my sofa is the same, 12 years old, knackered, bright red and now my 'theme' is white shabby chic, so you can imagine that it fits the shabby bit but not the chic and it looks a right eyesore.

i am having one chair covered by plumbs, but that was 250ish just for the chair and i cant afford the sofa. they also do a reupholstery service but i think it would be much more for me than just buying a new cheapy sofa

ive been looking at throws etc, they are horrible and i know i'll be continually pushing back the cushions all the time.

then i saw what you are referring to, those horrible stretchy covers.

i just cant understand why someone cant make a ready made cotton cover, with ties around the side to keep it neat, which would cover a chair, 2 seater, 3 seater etc, but i cant find them

we had a trailer. i suppose the only problem with buying a sofa off ebay or a freebie is wether or not you can pick it up, otherwise, you have the extra cost of arranging delivery!

yes, we bought a computer cabinet off ebay, ikea one which was over 200 quid new, got it for 40 pounds. BUT oh was furious that i hadnt considered how we were going to get it home, it stuck out of the back and we didnt have proper ties to clamp it in. i drove at about 20 miles an hour and panicked on every corner, so now im wary of how to get stuff of ebay, but i'd love a cheap sofa to see me through the next year or so

Thanks for some brilliant ideas - will definately try gumtree and I've been looking on local e-bay but no luck so far. It's really annoying that you can't buy a reasonably cheap set of covers cos my sofa is perfectly good apart from the covers
    Thanks everyone
