Cancelled buses

Options
I commute on a bus regularly, as I cant afford a car. And I have a bus pass to save money. On Friday night, an hourly service didnt turn up, twice in a row. Basically it was cancelled. No warning on any websites. So I had to get a horrendously expensive taxi. Should I be entitled to get compensation from the bus company for the taxi fare?

The bus company have offered me two day tickets which:
a) are worth nearly half the price of the taxi fare
b) are useless as I buy weekly bus passes

I've emailed back saying thats not acceptable. But do I actually have any rights in this instance?

Thanks,
Ed

To be honest, I would have thought that the bus company's liability would be limited to refunding you for the ticket which you coudln't use. Which company is it? Do they have Ts and CS on their website?
  • Well after asking for a refund of the taxi journey, they complied and are doing just that. But that's not goingt o work every time their buses don't run.

They claim that the buses were late due to congestion, which would've been the case because of a major rugby game being on. But both times I waited for a bus for half an hour.

I think its just something I'll have to deal with...

You'll find in their T&Cs that they are not responsible for buses being late or cancelled, and not liable for any costs incurred as a result.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I've been left stranded by a train not turning up once, so I phoned up the train line and managed to get them to send a taxi to me (I played the young female alone card...). You could try this with the bus company next time?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
