The ones that get massive charges tend to be people who use others money as if it were there own and then stick their head in the sand and blame others.

Absolutely spot on. The same people then proudly list their past financial disasters in their signature file on internet forums (particularly CAG), like some perverse badge of honour, and then have the nerve to dish out financial advice to others.....
  • Are you saying that people who state the amount of debt they have are incapable of advising others ?

I would suggest that feeling the need to advertise it to the world is a slightly odd trait. Bit like listing any diseases you may have.

Not at all. That is not what I was implying, and I find the support given by this site to people who wish to reduce their levels of debt to be both admirable and valuable. I would also imagine that seeing the levels reduce over time in a signature file gives genuine satisfaction and for that I applaud the practice.

I was referring to those who instead list all the arguments and battles they have had with various institutions over the years. That is different, and does not imply that such a person is expert in anything other than debt avoidance.
  • ILW, you seem to have an irrelevant remark for most things, what does listing your diseases have to do with a debt signiture? nothing i would assume but anyhow each to there own

Sorry, but i have never heard of a debt signature. Still cannot see the reason for listing all your debts for public appraisal. Seems a bit Gerry Springer. I am probably wrong though.
  • maybe i am jerry springer :D, what you have tounderstand im guessing you are older than me or maybe a different age generation im in my 20's so i dont see any problem with my debt im paying it and im proud of it i enjoyed spending it why should i have to feel ashamed of it and so what if i like it as my signiture im not walking round in public places and introducing myself that way its on here because nobody will ever no who i am unless i decide to out myself. I cant imagine why you feel such a negative towards people displaying there achievements !

I agree Andy, but my theory on this is that the debt write off merchants and their disciples are more interested in the claims management spin than the questionable facts behind them.

When a judgement comes along (or even 3 judgements in a row!) that drives a bulldozer through many of their beliefs and assumptions it either goes right over their heads, or they don't want to listen because it doesnt suit the preachings of their masters.

There's a few over on CAG that are jumping around in rage, obviously aghast at the thought that this consumer can't lay claim to the £40,000 that they think is so rightfully theirs.

    Long live common sense.

seeing as YOU have mentioned cag i'd like to make a few comparisons about the people who go on there who use such supposed loopholes (their actually not loopholes but consumer LAW) and you lot that frequent mse
1 ; not once have i seen any insults, belittling, bullying, arrogance or false moral preaching on cag yet here its a daily occurance
2; people on cag go there to help each other out unlike mse where it seems most are on here to get a feeling of self importance by slating those less fortunate
3 ; they actually do everything they can, including campaigns, to highlight consumer issues that effect everyone whereas most on here defend the financial institutions for some missplaced sense of loyalty that would soon dissapear if they had to survive on the breadline for a bit .
so you can insult the people on cag who use legislation to help people out of debt if you like but i know who the better people are and its not those on mse

Don't forget there are a lot of CAGgers on here ;);) We're easy to spot cos we are usually pro-consumer and anti-bank! To be fair, i'd agree with Brock and you on this one - CAGgers are a little 'passionate' whereas the folks on here tend to be a little more 'patronising' but then the differences are quite clear in that MSE is in fact a money saving board not like CAG which is, exclusively, consumer action.

The differences in the name say it all. Although I personally prefer MSE, I certainly won't slag CAG off cos it has its own purpose and I do use it as well - especially if I need free legal advice :D

Its all to do with being proud of achieving or about to achieve a debt free date. So the guys that post their debt in their signature are showing others that it is possible to clear your debts. It enlightens people and makes them feel better knowing there are others in a similar/worse situation. It gives people something to work toward. It does the kind of things you'd just not understand - period!

I keep forgetting, you're that 'Mr Perfect' aren't you..... The same one that looks down on people that are in debt - quite shallow really. :rotfl:
