Our baby ducks are here

Congratulations! I too have had to stop in the road to let mummy and baby ducks wander across. It happens quite a lot not far from here.
I have only held a new duckling once. It was all fluff, feet and bill. Delightful even though it reminded me a bit of Captain Caveman or Cousin It from the Addams Family.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
the 2 yellow ones are playing with each other and chewing their bills. You are quite right gingham ribbon, they are all feet (enormous) bills (cute but big) and fluffy feathers.:D
i am amazed how awake they are and scrambling all over the mums. There are still eggs hatching and I think they have buried some eggs really deep in the nest cos we cant see them.
Its Berty I feel sorry for, he's just sitting in the pen by his pond and is bored stiff. Thats nature though and I'm sure he will be busy once they are all out and about.
I'm of to sit in the suny grden and watch the babies.:D0 -
We have number 6. Poor little thing is lying there exhausted and the others are all jumping on him! Think there may be number 7 but not sure yet. I don't want to get to close and upset the mums.
The 2 yellow ones keep sitting on mums back and then sliding off. They clamber back up and then come off again or they have sat there looking at me.
Can't wait till the kids get in and they see. Photos should be on after tea-time.0 -
Hi guys, sorry no photos yet. got them on camera but I dont know how to get them on here and hubby at work.
he was going to do them last night but one of our babies born late afternoon was poorly and sadly we lost 'her' in the night. We thought it would happen but youngest was really upset. She had named her Dot because she had a black dot on her back. Promise photos of 9, yes 9 babies coming soon. Still 3 eggs left on nest but Mums have left them now to go cold so not sure if anything will happen there or not.
The babies have had their first feed and tasted lettuce, a treat the ducks love. They are also sitting in their food bowl and there are all sorts of unmentionables in the water dish!0 -
What happened to the duck thread?
How many hatched, did you get pics?
Want to hear all about it!0 -
bargainaddict wrote:Hi, I am so excited, so sorry if I've posted in the wrong place, but FINALLY our babies have started to arrive. So far we have 2 yellow ones and 1 brown. They have been sitting on 13 eggs so not sure how many we will get. They are so tiny and cute and worn out from the hard work of hatching. Both the females have been sitting on the nest so the babies looked squashed!
Can't wait till tomorrow when todays hatchings will be moving around the pen.
Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement. Bye::D
Ooooooo, bargain addict, you beat me to it! Was going to post over the w/e.
We have a dozen hens eggs sitting in an incubator. Yesterday (21 days exactly, as we were told) they started to crack. Now 4 are cracked, and I can see one very scrawny chick poking through and cheeping. I'm so excited (but there are other much sadder reasons why I can't slepp and am up so early). My DH is on pins - he says it's far more stressful than when I was pregnant.
Keep posting! Any pics yet?

Queenie wrote::T :T :T That's wonderful news and very exciting! My friend has just hatched 30 quail eggs in an incubator so I understand your excitement :T :T :T
Would love to do quail next. Where were they from, Queenie? Did your friend buy the eggs or "lay them yourself", if you understand what I mean. Can't work out the words this early.

Can now see 4 beaks. Would usually be outside all day when the weather's like this, but have to keep popping in for a peek!

We now have one chick fully out of the egg - the feathers are really dark. DD has gone out with a friend. This egg idea was hers,as she always wanted fluffy yellow chicks. She'll have a shock!:T :T :T :T
That egg was a tardis!. The chick is HUUUUUUUUUUUGE compared to the little egg.
