Spoke to the CSA last night they have agreed to re assess me. However they have said that they will require a lump sum of around £5000 - £10000 towards the arrears as has to be paid off in 2 years, when i said there is no way i could possibly get that kind of money they informed me that if i do not settle they will send my case to one of there inforcement agencies and they will send the bayliffs around.
Always amazes me how customer friendly they are......NOT

, if it was me I would let them take legal action against me then you might be able to arrange some sort of decent payment plan. *SIGH*

Kelloggs 36, i knew the CSA were involved and was in contact with them i told them i would not pay (due to the duff advice i got) until my ex wife lets me see my daughter who i was paying for, she is the one who ran off with someone not informing me, it took me 5 years to find her. I had no contact from the CSA since that phone call 5-6 years ago.0

I asked about a reasonable payment plan and they just said no 2 years or bayliff action.. Made me laugh a little as they live in a different world i think...0

You need to get some advice - gp down to your local CAB and get them to put together a financial statement for you. Then you can send it to the CSA and they will be able to sort something out for you.
Do you have any assets? House? car? anything at all like that? If you do then the CSA can seize those, if not then try to come to some sort of arrangement.
I realise that to you they are very unfriendly, but look at it from their point of view, the last contact they had from you before yesterday you told them you were not paying any maintenance. Thats willfull non payment regardless of the change in circumstances. Now you want to go back and pay the arrears in small chunks - the CSA are there to ensure that the child is maintained which you have not done (for whatever reason) for the last 5 years. You cant expect them to be particularly sympathetic, they have hundreds of NRP's a year who will not pay, they are not aware of your duff advice.
The CSA will almost certainly put on an attachment of earnings as well due to the high level of arrears and the prolonged period of non payment so be prepared for that.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
Hiya, this just goes to show you that NRP's can choose to avoid supporting their children for so long, but as in the OP case, there will come a day when the enforcement powers of the CSA will tap them on the shoulder.
Thanks to the posts clarifying my earlier quesiton.
OP, surely you didn't think that you would stop paying and that would be the end of it? Just curious, and appreciate your input throughout your postings. (My ex stopped paying some time ago, for different reasons to yours so your post caught my attention)0 -

You were never in a legal position to refuse to pay - you made that choice. I'm surprised that you expect them to bend over backwards now when you have finally realised that you must pay up. Whatever the reasons your ex went, I am not in a position to judge, but your children never made a choice to leave - but they are the ones you have punished by punishing your ex. The law in respect of maintenance is on the parent with care's side - there are other laws which deal with contact and I suggest you seek legal advice there.
The CSA may not have made contact with you, but that does not negate your liability.0 -

In fairness, you have already had 5 years to pay this but refused to do so - why should you be given extra time because of your choices? This is not the same as the CSA making an error - you have been non-compliant and now want them to sympathise with you and give you longer time to pay up.0 -

He could have saved up the money he refused to pay to them over the last 5 years - he CHOSE not to pay afterall. His problem really.0 -

All true however,
When it comes to the house, seizure is a very long way down the line.

True,
They will get a deo and if they do then the maximum that they can take when using the DEO is 40% of your net take home pay.
They may well try to take more that 40% of your net take home pay, as they did in my case.
It took about 8 months to get sorted out.0
