Stop Petrol Siphoning!

Hi,
The petrol has been siphoned out of my Mini (old Style) 3 times over the last couple of weeks. I don't even live in a dodgy area! They broke off the locking petrol cap the first time and i'm just using a temporary one at the moment. Didn't want to fork out another tenner if they're just going to break it off again. Does any one have any ideas how I can stop the little blighters? I've had a scout around the the t'interweb for anti siphening devices but no luck.
Its ruining all my money saving efforts!!!!

Here's an idea that includes vengence. I'm assuming you mean a real Mini (Austin, BL etc not the horrible modern things). Is it one that would run on Lead replacement petrol? If so fill up with that for a while, I beleive it would be rather harmfull to most modern cars.
Only other idea is a bit extreme, fit a new fuel tank, either one with an anti siphon device (don't know if anyone makes them for a mini) or a race style one where you would have to open the boot to fill up.0 -

That strikes me as funny:rotfl:
3 times in a fortnight and you don't deem it a dodgy area?

I agree with Albert, don't put the fuel in so that have nothing to siphon.0

Honest! Its a nice quite country village! there is a bit of a chav market town a couple of miles away though.
Each time they've knicked some, its only had about a fiver in any way (the tank will only take £15 worth!). I guess I'll have to put 5 in each day to get me to work and back until they get bored.
tried a couple of things so far - backed up to a hedge (didn't work), parked it on a different road last night (I'll see later) . Think I'll try the LPR fuel and maybe even put an LPR sticker? Might also set a webcam on it for a couple of days see if I can catch me a fish!0 -

I doubt a webcam would produce a good enough picture to catch the blighters. Maybe try borrowing a video camera or something if you don't have one and park outside your house if you can.
Instead of keep putting £5 of fuel in everyday, at least fill up a petrol can and store that in the boot to lessen the frequency of your trips to the petrol station.
Have you looked to see if there is a more secure petrol cap than your last one?0 -
OMG
Dave, stand out for a watch and be prepared with a crowbar! and if you see them, run towards them with the crowbar!
ARGH! I hate people who harm original MINIs, they should burn in hell!"Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

Can't you just connect the petrol cap to the battery?

ooo, some cracking ideas, lots of pain involved, nice. ;-)0

A Mini is one of the easier cars to steal fuel from, as you've discovered. Can you park anywhere else, thats more secure?
Try putting a notice on the screen, by the filler cap, saying you've only got a minimal amount of fuel in it - they MIGHT be annoyed at getting such a small reward, they'd eventually give up.
I'm being serious - it's a bit like the shops putting signs 'not more than £20 kept in the till,' that sort of thing.

Here's a very nasty old trick.
As they're probably syphoning at night they won't be able to see much. Use some disposable gloves to blue tack a drawing pin covered in dog poo to the petrol cap. When they !!!!! their finger or hand they'll shake their hand and want to suck the blood off!!!
I hope you get the blighters!Russ.0
