ok, I've sulked, fretted and fumed about the work situation and have just sent the following:
"I've decided I'll not come out on this night out... I don't want to watch what I say in case it's misinterpreted and offence is taken (when none is intended) and resentment built from a misinterpreted comment. Especially as I'll not be there on the Monday for the post mortem where comments/actions that have caused offence are likely to be dissected and analysed for any subtexts and hidden meanings and so I cannot discredit or dispell any inferred offence.

That said, I hope you all have a lovely meal/ time out together and I am looking forward to being back at work in Febraury and seeing you all then."

    Subtle enough?
Toto, I cannot believe little Lily is one tomorrow! Where the heck has the time gone???

So far it has told me to think about the problem, work out what is the worst thing that can happen, can you cope with that? (ie for me I would lose my job, opportnity of a new start, freedom from the pressure and politics for a while) Yes I can cope with that. So now I know that I can stop worrying, and do stuff I need to do to make today better.

    - It doesn't work for all worries but has taken the pressure off. and it was a bit less simplistic then what I wrote. night all xxx
