music downloads

I' m trying to find out if it is legal to download music files from either Winmx or Bearshare after having subscribed. If it isn't which is a good place to get music that you can subscribe to and keep the music for yourself even if you no longer subscribe to that site.

Both sites are illegal file sharing applications, it is naughty downloading from these sites and even naughtier sharing files, not too sure what you mean by subscribing?

I want to download music files and transfer them to my mp3 player or onto disc. Some sites let you keep them but only as long as you are a subscriber.
Is there one that will let you keep them even if you cancel your subscription.
Any ideas on who offers the best value for money or the most perks.
    Thanks.

http://www.wippit.com seems pretty good first month £2.99 for unlimited downloads that are yours to keep. Then it goes up to £12.99 a month or you can buy a years worth of unlimited downloads for £50.

Why not just buy the cd ? Just as convienient i.e. delivered to your door - very simple to convert to MP3 or similar and less chance of losing it !

P2P sites are not illegal, however a majority of the files shared does break copyright laws,

there is no official way of getting music cheaply, you could always download albums from say tesco's not cheap but cheaper than buying the CD

Actually there is. Still a grey area though but definitely cheap. Look here:

    It's getting some bad press:

Not sure whether they are just trying to warn people away though, or if it is actually illegal.

P2P isn't illegal either. It's commonly seen, or used illegally, but is also used for legitimate reasons. I for example downloaded the latest Ubuntu release via a torrent today. It's not something that is going to go away.

With regards to WinMX and BearShare, it'll most likely be illegal content circling those networks.

infringing copyright laws when donloading MP3's is not a grey area as the bbc news site quotes

"It is illegal for them to sell the recordings in Russia or anywhere else because they are not licensed, and UK consumers are infringing copyright law because they are making illegal copies from an unlicensed source."
