my wife is being made redundant next week
she was told about it 6 weeks ago but only just found out exactly when she finishes
a girl who worked at their other store said they didnt give her and money for the first 2 years she was there (worked there 6 years in all)
as i see it that is wrong am i correct
also she is not going to know what she is getting till she actualy leaves her place of work is this right
she has no contract either and has been with the company for 5 years

Having a contract is irrelevant. She should be able to show that she has 5 years employment.
If she has been with the company for 5 years she should receive a minimum 1 weeks pay for each completed year of service. The amount would be either her normal week's pay or capped at £380 if she gets more than that - of course the company may pay more. IF she is over 41 she will get 1.5 x the above for each completed year over the age of 41. If she was under 21 when she joined it will be .5 per week until reaching 21.
In addition she should have been informed in writing that she was being made redundant and that she was working her notice. If not, she should get notice pay of 5 weeks at her normal rate of pay irrespective of whether this is over £380 per week.0
