I still like the idea of them losing it, and a carriage full of passengers are still stuck somewhere in Derbyshire wondering when they are going to get home
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Carriage B on the East Coast Mainline is the "quiet coach". Perhaps it got too noisy and had to be withdrawn from service!
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • How do you lose a carriage. Mind you at least it was only a carriage they normally loose the whole train.

You can't 'lose' a carriage, least of all en route. I suspect that you misunderstood the guard - or that he made something up rather than admit he hadn't a clue.

What probably happened was that the train due to run the service broke down and a shorter one was substituted in its place.

By all means complain - you'll probably get a voucher in compensation.

Seat Reservations may not be guaranteed - but a seat should be!
If one doesn't get a seat, I think you should get half the price of the ticket back.

There seems to be no laws about how many people can board a train.
Cars can be overloaded, as can busses/coaches/planes. However on a train, it seems anything goes.
About time they hit them with the big H&S book and don't allow standing, then we'll soon see how inadequate the trains really are. They only get by, by cramming people on like sardines.
Why bother with seats if this is the way forward. Just have a standing carriage only - and charge less for such tickets. They will cram even more people on, and more people may actually use the train as the standing prices would be more palatable, although survival much less when they de-rail.

This is quite wrong, one train crash(cant remember may have been ladbroke grove) had more passengers surviving because they were crammed into standing positions rather then sat down. Saw a programme on how they modelled it and it showed those sat down were more at risk of bieng thrown round the carriage and dying then those stood shoulder to shoulder who those at the ends would probably just sustain some injuries.

and the new trains on the overground actually have less seats on them and more standing room as the typical journey for someone is only 15 mins or so..

  • Thanks everyone.

I'll give it a try, anything is better than nothing. Even if they are just more polite next time, it's an improvement.
