kitchen carcasses

Can anyone advise the best place to buy Kitchen Carcasses from?

I dont mind splashing out on some doors we like in MFI as we have tesco vouchers. However we were naive enough to believe £600 would be enough for our small kitchen but the price MFI quoted us of around £1000 is a bit of a shock!!!

Any help appreciated

  • you anywhere near Coventry?

Otherwise I think Ikea kitchens are pretty cheap and decent quality. You can design one and see the price using the tool on their site (direct links don't tend to work)

You can buy flatpack - but to be honest the rigid carcasses are really cheap - why not splash out on them.

Look at B and Q. I bought a perfectly good 600mm carcase from there for around £26. You may be closer to your £600 here than you may think. MFI are not necessarily the cheapest. Why not wait until their next sale - poss August BH.

Or, look in the freeads and freecycle etc for decent carcasses, or put a wanted ad in offering free removal. Kitchen companies sometimes give a discount if they don't have to remove the old units. B and Q did that with the inlaws' kitchen, which I took out and put in our rented flat.

Don't forget ex display but it's no saving if the're the incorrect number of units.

Some advice if you do take the good second had route, especially if you are viewing kitchens that are yet to be removed, and paying for it.

    1) Discount the sink unit immediately. Most people have plumbing writhing in and out of here like spagetti junction. They will almost certainly be in bad condition due to water spillage/leaks etc.
    2) Try to go for the thicker 18mm units. These stand up better to wear and probably won't cost any more.
    3) Look very carefully at the condition of the units and how they have been fitted. Are services and wastes running through the backs of them?
    4) Remove the drawers from Drawer units and have a good look behind.
    5) The worktops will be scrap, as will any cornices, pelmets and probably kickboards. These will need to be replaced or done without as they will probaby be cut to the wrong lengths unless you are very lucky. Take them anyway you can always throw them out. You need to factor in costs to replace these items with new.

Yes they do the carcasses without the doors and they are not bad quality wise.Trade shops such as Howdens are cheap but you will have to open an account to shop there.I don't know if they sell just the carcasses as i usually buy the lot from them.Never tried buying just the unit.

No, there's a place in Coventry called 'Thursday and Co' Or something like that, thursday and something...anyway they sell all the MFI shop soiled, excess stock etc etc. So called because they're only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They've got loads of ovens and stuff cheap, mostly built in appliances, but they also sell all the units cheap.

The main problem with that is you kind of need to know what you want, there's no kitchen design service or anything like that, just all the parts on shelves, though I suspect the people who work there could tell you all the bits you need to make up the units.

I know people in the trade round here quote for new kitchens then go there to get all the bits

I'm going to get a Smeg or Siemens oven from there at less than half price when I do my kitchen.

If you're interested I'll draw you a map of where it is or try and find a phone number.

ordered about 6 weeks ago, delivered 3 weeks later, still doing finishing touches. Maybe you can just ring, ask for Paul he was really helpful, if the "sale" is not still on ask waht discount he can do, you should get very close to trade price
