Printer won't print in colour :(

Afternoon
We recently (3 months ago) bought this Epson R220 printer:

However recently it's only been printing in black, even with the grayscale unselected. I can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with the recent replacement of the ink cartridges...
from North Devon Computers
We bought some compatibles for £1 each instead of £15 each from Epson  the black compatible seems to print fine but not the colour. They are branded "InkyJet".
Any ideas for this one? I've done an auto nozzle clean but it only spurted out black ink no colour at all

remove all cartridges
make sure the seal has been broken on the bottom of the cartridge
then replace them

Try downloading the SSC Service Utility for Epson Stylus Printers This tool is far better than the Epson utility and allows you to separately clean the colour head.
Epson printers do tend to clog if they are not used regularly but I have used various different makes of compatibles with no problems. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It could be the cartridges, maybes just not installed correctly like someone else said try removing them and re-installing them. When did the problem start?
I've been using Epson printers for about 4 years and always buy the cheaper replacement cartridges and never had any problem, you've maybe just got a bad batch.
Try Epsons website they've got a live help and see if they can help you. If it is the cartridges I'd contact the supplier and ask if they will refund or replace them for you.0 -
I've also had the same problem with my Epson printer and using compatible cartridges (only the colour for some reason possibly because it 's used less often). Whatever I've done to try and correct the problem the only solution has been to install another cartridge, however it eventually happened again with the 2nd cartridge. Agree with the previous poster that it could be a bad sample as I've had no problems since using those two mentioned above and I still use the same supplier.0

so if that's the case then they can buy me a new printer then...
Really sorry about the rushed reply, had to go out
Well its just that I bought some ink for my printer and I found out something odd, when I took my cartridges into the shop they refilled them, I used them with no joy at until I looked where they had injected the cartridge and saw a small pin hole so I thought maybe they worked on a vacuum basis so eye put a small bit of cellotape over the hole and Voila they are fine now.
Maybe worth a shot :think:0
