Hi !
I'm just comming to the end of a complete hosue renovation and will be soon looking for carpet, but as I've never bought carpet before I havent a foggist where to start !!
My plan is to have the same carpets in the bedroom, a different one on the stairs and another different one in the living room. All in a beige / neutral color
If I was to start with the bedrooms, can anyone give me some advice where to start? I havent really a clue what sort of price per/m2 i should be looking at, £10-15 maybe?
Not sure if if helps, but theres no kids nor pets in the house at the mo
anyone?
thanks :j:j

1 thing i will say is buy your own underlay. you can buy 15sm of Tredaire Dreamwalk 11mm for £52 @ http://www.discounted-carpet-underlay.co.uk/
It will be alot cheaper normally this way then getting the shop to supply it.0 -
Thanks, I will look at that
I've already bought some U/L but will need more0 -
Completely agree with above thread regarding underlay. You can buy a very good quality underlay yourself at a fraction of the price the carpet shops will charge (it appears they make a huge mark up on this).
With regards to carpet the range is bewildering. You can either go 100% natural or 100% man made. Both have their pros and cons. In my opinion, after doing a lot of research, a blend of the two is best (I think 60:40 natural to manmade).
Some of the big name carpets are expensive however these have been copied and the same quality is offered by generics. So it is worth doing research on this.
Oh, do get a good handful of quotes. You'll be amazed by the price range. Also, a good carpet fitter can make a cheap carpet look like expensive and a poor fitter can make an expensive carpet look like you bought it from a jumble sale"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0 -
Thanks, I will look into a blend of natural/ man made, do a little more research !0

Hi,
We have just bought and had fitted carpet upstairs (3 bedrooms, landing and stairs).
We looked round a few shops and the best by far were the small local ones. They actually knew what they were talking about and were cheaper.
We bought a man made thick carpet for the bedrooms in a cream colour with a mushroomy fleck (£11.99/m2) and a wool carpet for the landing and stairs. The landing one was about £38/m2 but it was only a small area and the stairs carpet (a striped runner) was £28/m2.
I was told in terms of wear that both manmade and wool carpets are as good as each other these days. Also the bedroom carpet can be cleaned with bleach if needed without affecting the colour!
We got the shop to price match dreamwalk treadair from the internet so paid £3.52/m2 for that and they fitted it all for £140.
For a smallish 3 bed it cost us just over £1000 including underlay, grippers etc.
