Credit card claim, who claims?

Options
An item I bought was delivered but faulty. I have returned it and was told it would be replaced. Waited around 10 days now, no sign of it and no reply to emails. Paid by credit card £125. The credit card account is in my wife's name but I have an additional card. If it comes to it, who makes the claim, her or me?

Probably her as it is her card but as you are an additional holder you might be able to put the claim in yourself.

When I had something similar my OH had to claim as the card company would not talk to me. It was nonsense actually as they wanted all this info from him but he wasn't even there when I had made the purchase! In the end we waited until we were both together and had half an hour to wait for the CC to pick up the phone, he did all the security stuff and then told me they had his permission to talk to me..and he handed the phone to me.

  • Nothing ever straightforward. At what point would we be able to make a chargeback claim, would we need to wait weeks or months without getting the replacement item before making the claim?

  • Aww crap, I could just as easily have let my wife get it or used her card if I'd known that. The only time I use a credit card is to buy stuff online for safety purposes but I've been wasting my time for years

I wonder how many people are unaware of that

I learn something everyday.... thought I was being sensible by paying for just about everything on a credit card. To make the home accounts easier, got a joint credit card with my better half but have suddenly learned the purchases on the second card (additional cardholder) are not covered under the consumer credit act. That's naff!

That is indeed naff. I'm going to have to get one of my own now. I can't think how Martin the MSE :money: has never mentioned this on his radio appearances when advising everyone to buy with a credit card
