Vendor house hunting - time?

Finally had an offer accepted on the house we want!:j
The vendor now wants to find their next house prior to starting to get into solicitors etc. How long is it reasonable for us to wait?
Ideally we want to be in there in August and we understand the chances of the chain ahead of us holding everything up (We're chain free buyers), but how long would you wait?

12 weeks from today until 29th August.
If your vendors buy a house where they're filling in a chain, then I guess it's possible to complete in 12 weeks.
If your vendors make you the first link in a chain which continues with their offer, then there's a very slim chance of all in the chain completing in 12 weeks.
Ours was supposed to be a very simple chain (FTB buying ours, we're buying a new house). We accepted their offer 21st March, and instructed a solicitor 22nd March...we had our offer accepted 3 weeks after that...we still haven't exchanged, 12 weeks after their offer was made. We only looked at chain free houses
I guess it boils down to how important it is you move in August. I'd probably tell your vendor you're willing to wait for them up to a month to have an offer accepted...a reasonable time to find a house, but still asking them to get on and do it.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Probably longer! I had no chain and neither did the vendor but it still took 12 weeks! Your vendor will needs to choose a house and have his offer accepted, then your vendor's vendor needs to start looking and having an offer accepted etc etc. Just hope there's a break in the chain somewhere. Its a complete pain in the !!!!!!, and conveyancers NEVER move quickly!0

The problem you've got is that you have no control over the chain, if your vendor finds somewhere & that vendor hasn't started looking either, until thay have an offer on theres it could take a while to get a closed chain. I would tell the vendors that they have 4-6 weeks to try & find something suitable, you will then review your situation.0
