E.On Bill explaination for a dummy!

Hi,

After going through all the usual comparison sites for Gas and Electricity, it seems that E.On was the cheapest for me, so I arranged a dual fuel switch through Quidco.

I fill in all the required fields on the E.On website, but now I'm slightly confused as to how my payments are going to work.

I have all electric heating, so my gas usage is very low (so far this year £9.00) but my electric bill is normally about £170 a quarter (I think this is high anyway)

My question is, one of the fields asked how much i wanted to pay a month, and gave me the option of £37-£50.00, so i choice the £50 option. But i don't understand how my payments are now going to work.

I thought you just got billed for what you used, If I am paying £50 a month, what if my usage only equals £30, or £90 in fact? What happens to the credit amount or the over due amount?

Does this £50 include the gas as well?

Please don't advise me to call E.on, as i have done twice and the customer service rep doesn't get my question?? Starting to think it's better to cancel while in my cooling off period and go with another company who explains things better.

Thanks
V

Using the infoamtion you provide E.on will attempt to calculate how much energy you are going to use throughout the year. They will then divide this figure by 12 so that you pay for 1/12th of you consumption each month.

This means in spring/summer you will be paying more than what you are actually using at that time thus building a credit and in autumn/winter you will be using more than what you are paying but use thea crrued credit to off-set the difference. When you reach the review period (which is typically the first spring after a 12 month period) E>on should have a far greater guage of your consumptiopn and will be able to track your payments a little more accurately in addition any excess credit will be refunded at this point.

It is important that you ensure your bills are base don actual meter readings as some assumptions are made in the intial calculations due to some infoamtion not being available. your readings will allow E.on to make any required adjustments throughout the period. In addition you cna request a review of your payments at any time and indeed a refund if you feel the credit is too high for your expect consumption.

(this is assuming your have selected direct debit as a payment method)

If you have further issues with the customer service staff speak to the complaints department. The people there are generally trained to a a higher degree than the customer services teams and usually have a far greater degree of common sense.

    Hi vickyb242,

    Sorry for the confusion.

Are you trying to set up a monthly Direct Debit?

A Direct Debit is set up to cover your usage over 12 months then divided in to monthly payments.

With this sort of arrangement you should build up some credit ready for the winter bills when your usage will be higher. If you build up a debt balance this means your payments are not enough to cover the amount of energy that you use and they need to be increased.

If your account is in a credit balance after the winter months, you can request a refund and for your payments to be re-calculated.

You can adjust the payment amount at any time, make sure you give accurate meter readings.

If you feel that the monthly amount is not enough, request for this to be increased.

Direct Debit is one of the ways to receive extra discount.

    Hope this helps.
