I sent off bag of gold jewellery. I heard nothing for 3 weeks and then I recieved my large cheque for £0.51pence. Yes you read that right. Returned cheque over 3 weeks ago as requested within the 10 days allowed, and have heard nothing!!!!!!0

Tested them out with 30g of 9ct gold. They sent a cheque for £45. This equals a miserly £1.50 per gram. Dont be a mug! You can easily get £5 per gram on the High Street and the best I've been offered is £6.50. These rip off merchants rely on 1) your ignorance of the trade, 2)your reluctance to visit or phone a few local traders and 3) you being impressed by their expensive TV ads. Shop around.0

As a High Street Jeweller myself I have had lots of people complain to me about the derisory amounts paid by these companies whereas I'm proud to say I have had many customers recommend me to their freinds when they wish to sell their gold.
I would like to point out a few things though;
Many hollow bangles and hoop earrings may often have a reinforcing nylon or metal peice in them to give them strengh, that will have an effect on the weight. So altough your scales may read 30 grams there may only be 25grms of gold there. An honest jeweller will advise you of this.
Rolled gold is only equivilent to a heavy gold plating, it has no real scrap value.
It doesn't matter whether your jewellery has stones in it, they are worthless when items are being melted down for scrap, these bullion dealers do not employ some to painstakingly remove all stones for their value, they literally hammer them out!
As a previous poster has pointed out some items do have a second hand value but unfortunately the economic downturn has had a negative effect on this market too. Many jewellers cannot afford to pay for items that they could sell on just to keep until the market gets better - even if they do buy something with the intention of selling it on be aware that not only must the jeweller sell it at a second hand price (and with all the haggling that goes with it) he must still offer some form of guarantee with it and long after you've spent the money he gave you for it he's still liable to have a customer demanding free repairs if something goes wrong with it!0 -
hi all, i am a manager for a company who buy gold in shopping centers...i recieve complaints on a daily basis about postal gold companies in general...offering very low amounts, not honouring on line quotes, taking in the order of a month to send checks or gold back (if at all) and worst of all some companies charge you for valuations, postage (both ways) and insurance (both ways) should u not accept the offer they make. PLEASE PLEASE be very carefull with these companies....they give us all a bad reputation. My company, H&T Gold Bar, value your items infront of you, u can see the scales and the weight, we explain what we are doing at every stage and if asked why, we give CASH not cheques immediately and we pride ourselves on the honest and upfront nature and friendly staff within our company....if you ask me all gold buying companies should be like this!0

I can't find a thread for the one I used which is cashforyourgold. They don't advertise on the TV. A friend used them and had great service so I used them. If you go on their website they are the only 1 i know of that tell you up front what you will get for your gold per gram, it's advertised on their website. Where as the other companies only tell you once they've got your gold ! So you know before you send it what you're going to get (obviously they have to check the gold when they get it). I weighed mine so new what I was approx going to get £740. They phone the next day to offer me an amount which was £710. I agreed to this and the money was in my bank account within 2 hours.
Wish i'd waited now as i've just checked their website and it's gone up to £8 per gram !!!
£8 per gram is fantastic for 9ct gold as the international exchange rate was £7.80 on monday, the only way thay make money is offering the same price for all ct's and 22ct will fetch upto £12.50 a gram at some places....good deal if you got 9ct but not if you have anything better than that!!!0 -
I used this cash site in September. It did not promise any price prior to sending the gold but offers if you are not satisfied with price it pays it will return your gold when they receive the check back. I sent 45g of gold and some silver and received a check for £23. This was a very low price but as the gold i sent them was broken and just hanging about in a drawer I accepted their check. It was a fast efficient service with insurance included for free but the price is low.0

Hiya,
I used this company about 2/3 months ago, I sent a small selection of rings and chains and was sent a cheque back within around 7 days. Unfortunately the cheque was for £19.20...i put the weight of my gold into the Hatton Garden Metals site for a quote and they would've offered £70. I rang the number to ask for it back and returned my cheque. received my gold back no problem, it took about 10 days from them receiving my cheque. I'm just keeping hold of mine for now and might ask around a few jewellers in town or use the Hatton Garden Metals instead as at least you can get a quote before you send it off to them...0 -
