This thread is specifically to discuss feedback for the

Cash4Gold Postal Gold Company
(
link)

Postal gold companies, where you pop your old jewellery in an envelope & they melt it down and send you a cheque, have boomed in the past couple of months. We’re researching a guide to selling old gold, and need help from folks who’ve used these companies.

If you've used this company, please can you tell us the following...
  • When did you use it
  • What did you send it
  • How much did it promise you
  • How much did it deliver
  • How efficient was the service
  • If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason
  • Anything else other people should know

Important note for Representatives of Gold Companies

We will be monitoring the threads, and if we believe any company has got its own representatives to deliberately post positive feedback (or negative on its competitors) it will be deleted, and we will count that as negatively towards any company's reliability and trustworthyness.

    1. Used their services about 3-4 months ago
    2. Sent rings, chain, earrings (small pieces)
    3. As i remember they offered around 56 pounds
    4. Received 100% of that amount
    5. Was really happy with their service: quick and easy. No problems at all
    6. NA
    7. I was kinda sceptic about these services, but it was no worries at all. Got the the offer very quickly and didn't have to ask for a cheque twice. Actually didn't have to ask for a cheque at all, they just posted it :)
  • I sent jewellery around 6 weeks ago I received a cheque for £42 which was a ridiculous amount for the amount of gold I had sentoff for valueation, I returned the cheque immediately and received my gold back in approx 7days, I then took my gold to a jewellers in Preston and was paid £297 for the same gold. These companies are a rip off BEWARE!!!!!!
  • Errr, I don't think total rip off is quite right, a rip off but not total. A total rip off merchants they would have said they lost it/melt it/sold it etc;. WHAT YOU MUST DO before going to these type compaines, is to check out the price of it at local goldsmiths/whatever buyer. It's just the same as the mobile phone recycle companies really.
  • Sent bag of old gold to cash4gold in August, recieved a cheque for £70 within three days - very prompt! However, thought they were taking the mick and rang them and asked for my gold back to take elsewhere. Whilst on the phone they were suddenly able to offer me £140 for the gold, but I told them this was not enough and asked them to return it anyway. Two days later I got a phone call from them and lo and behold the gold that had started off being worth £70 was now worth £220!!! Was quite happy with this amount and the cheque arrived very quickly. Not a total rip-off but dont be too quick to accept their first offer seems to be the moral of the tale!!!!
  • Hi,
I used for cash 4 gold and was fairly pleased. I sent in mainly silver jewellery, they sent me a cheque for £8.00. I contacted them, said I was not happy with the amount and they doubled it!. This was all done fairly quickly. I do wonder though how much our old jewellery is really worth as oppose to what THEY tell us it is worth. Babs.
  • I used the cash4gold company a couple of months ago and found them to be excellent, fast and efficient.

Having sent my gold to them (after weighing it!!) I received an offer of £45.00p. Having checked the Scrap Gold prices on-line I emailed them and said that their offer was too low and they could either make me another offer or return my gold to me. I then received a call from one of their representatives and after a small amount of haggling accepted an offer of £65.00p (the scrap price for that day was £72.09p). They dispatched a cheque to me which I received in 2 days.
I found this company well worth a visit and they were very professional and efficient. :T
  • I used them about 2 months ago. I sent off a thick gold wedding band and received a cheque for £13. I had it valued for scrap at a shop and was offered £30 so this amount was no where near enough. I sent the cheque back the next day and to date have not received my gold back. I have emailed many times and never received one reply. They also never answer the phone, or hang up on you if you do get a ringing-tone.
  • I used them three months ago. i sent off 4 rings A 9ct gold ring with saphire and diamonds. Cost £350 new. A 18ct wedding band and two white 9ct gold rings one with a semi large aquamarine stone. Within a week i had a cheque for £14.72p!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I Sent the cheque back the next day and after four days i phoned to enquire whether they had received it back. They had and i would have my rings back within the week. TWO weeks later they hadn't arrived, i phoned again, was put on hold for ages and then informed they had just been sent out that day! I received my rings the next day. I've sold two of them in a local auction house for £70 and still have two left. I wouldn't recommend this company. They seem to want something for nothing.
  • I sent 4 gold chains, old wedding ring, signet ring, and some assorted broken items of jewelry in October and was sent a cheque for £6.63. I phoned them immediately and told them I was returning the cheque which I did. I am still waiting for my jewelry to be returned. I phoned them for the 3rd time yesterday and was told that it had been returned. They gave me a tracking number but could find no trace yesterday. I have yet to try today.

I didn't expect a lot but I found that amount to be an absolutely dishonest offer.
  • I sent gold & silver to postal gold, I was offered an amout of £34.00 knew it was worth much more asked them to send it back they made a further offer of £39.00, it was still worth much more than they were offering, so got it all back, it is a rip off they are out to make more money than they are willing to pay for it, go to your local jewellry shop instead & get lots more.
