Moving House - currently with Talk Talk but new house has BT line?

I have a feeling this is going to be tricky and time consuming right?
We currently have our line rental, phone and broadband with Talk Talk but the place we're mobing to has a BT line fitted. I'd like to stay with Talk Talk as haven't really had any problems and they are much cheaper, but wondered if anyone can advise me on the following:
1. How long does it take to transfer from a BT line to a Talk Talk one?
2. Can I use the BT line in the meantime?
3. I'm presuming I will be able to keep my current number (ported it from BT to Talk Talk years ago).
4. Could I be without any phone/broadband at first?
Not looking forward to this!!
Thanks

We've not long moved house with Talk Talk. I was under the impression that you needed a BT line to get Talk Talk in the first place. We could not keep our phone number even though we were still within the same telephone exchange. Finally took just under a month to get reconnected.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0

We did 5 or so years ago when we changed over but then they offered the line rental through Talk Talk so we did that.
Not sure whether to stay with Talk Talk or leave.
Thanks0 -
We decided to stay because we had not had any real problems in the past with them and there street was not cabled for anything like Virgin.
With all the other hassle of moving house, it seemed like something that could wait to be changed until things had settled down.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
If you want to use Talk Talk then contact them, they should be able to arrange installation of a new line or the takeover of an existing one, If you contact BT they will (quite rightly) want to sign you up for a minimum term of 12 months.
Even if you are moving within the same exchange area I doubt if Talk Talk will offer you the option of keeping your existing number.
The BT line thats already in the property should be in a stopped state (if the previous occupant advised BT they were moving out), so you wont be able to use the line for outgoing calls, (line may have a 'soft dailtone' which allows emergency calls or calls to BT custmer services to ask for the line to be started), if you dial 17070 you may be able to get the line number (and get incoming calls).0
