Washing machine help!

Options
Hi,

My Servis washing machine M6712s has broken down. The local repair man said it was the electrics, and that he wouldn't be able to get the parts as Servis have gone bust.

We were all set to purchase a new one from Argos (which is where we bought this one from^ 2 years ago), when I noticed all the washing machines had a five year parts warranty with them. I decided it was worth ringing Argos to see if I had a five year parts warranty, which I did! Yay!

They then gave me a number to ring for the engineers, but explained there would be a call out charge. The engineers are JTM, number 0191 387 0790, does anybody have any experience of them?

The call out charge is £88, and I had to pay it over the phone today, is that normal? (I haven't yet, I didn't have the serial number to hand!).

They have said that there would be no other charges and that they can source the parts despite Servis going bust. What would happen if they can't get the parts? Do they fix this on the day they come, or will they come look at it and have to come back again?

Are there any alternatives to the above? Can somebody reassure me as to the best thing to do?

Many thanks

RFTG x

Why do you have to pay a call out charge if its covered under warranty? Is this refunded if the fault is covered by the warranty?

as for the other questions, best thing to do is phone them up again and ask. I suspect they would have to come and find the fault and then come back and fix it once they have the replacement parts.

Paying for call out is what happens when an item is only covered by a parts warranty, i think all guarentees work this way. Either way once the it is paid all parts that are deffective will be replaced at no extra cost. If the item can not be fixed get a written letter from call out guys to take to Argos and ask them to replace it due to no parts availablity and try and recoup the call out charge too.

Thanks much appreciated, this was the reassurance I was looking for. Yes - that was my understanding of the call out charge also.

I have now paid the call out fee and am waiting for an engineer to call.

Thanks for the help guys x
