I'm not trying to prove you wrong, and tbh it took only seconds to get those 2 links so it wasn't that hard ;), all I'm doing is backing up my original point that TOCs do employ enforcement officers who can and do enforce the no smoking ban in stations and therefore it's probably not a con as some posters have suggested.

you can afford to smoke you can afford to pay the fine.
I agree give up smoking aim sure you'll soon get the money back and your kids and grand kids will have a dad/granddad who does't die at the age of 50
  • did you also get fined for littering? ;)

OMG what a two faced lot we are on here, If the op had gotten herself a parking ticket she would have been inundated with advice on how to dodge it!

OP YES, as you now know, the faggists have decided that having a crafty puff on a railway station is against the law, in an ideal world the enforcment officer would have said summat on the lines of "OI you, put that fag out" and if you complied left it at that....but then there is no revenue stream!

As others have said, it should be a fixed penalty, and you should have been issued with a ticket telling you what yopu have done and your options to pay or go to court. Have you given anyone IN AUTHOURITY your name and address yet in relation to this? If not they dont know who they are, or who to take to court!

IF you have received a lawful fixed penalty you either pay it, or contest it in court. As with so many of these modern [STRIKE]penalties[/STRIKE] taxes there is NO defence and the easiest route is to pay as its fairly certain you would loose in court and end up, potentially, paying more.
At times any combination of my spelling, grammar or punctuation may be incorrect. Please do not pick me up for this as, after all, it is only an internet forum.

Nope if someone had been caught illegal parking they wouldn't get any help from me either and properly a response stating tough luck.

Hi there, I'm new so please be gentle!
I went to a rugby match friday, it was packed on the trainstation when I got off so I stood on platform an lit up a cigarette.... an enforcemant officer came over and told me id broke the law so i put it out straight away. Then he reported me, i pleaded with him because i havnt been on a station for about 2years and didnt knw it was no smoking, and there were no signs in plainsight and no announcements over the tannoy until I left. He continued to tell me to phone the number on the card an id get a slap on the wrists or £10 fine. Phoned the number first thing monday morning and explained and she said id be going to court if I didnt make a settlement offer of between £50 and £100...which I cannot afford as it is christmas and I have 2children. Im really miffed aswell with the officer he completly gave me the wrong information. I am completly dumbstruck and dont know what to do can anybody help me???

When you say he reported you - did he give a ticket?
Did he take down your personal details and ask for Id??
Did you give him the correct personal details?
It is a fixed £50 penalty so I don't see how you would need to make an offer???
Have you got anything from him such as a ticket with any instructions on?

OP had to call up to get his own fine?

What if he had no phone? (I know this is unlikely).

What if he doesn't call? Shouldn't he get a ticket from the official or via the post for him to pay it?

This sounds very dodgy to me, it might be some con, next thing you know, they will be wanting a cheque and will modify it to rip more out of your bank that you first thought...

If you re-read the name of the OP, Amy Evans, you might want to change the gender in your post...
