The 'on behalf of the police' scam calls are happening again

Options
Just had one at work asking for my boss, who insisted he had spoken to him last January, I explained there was no way he would have done cos he'd have had to get past me first. Said it was about crime prevention campaign. I asked him to send info via email or post and he said he could do but he'd have to speak to him at some point. I said fine just send us an email then and if he's interested he'll get in touch. I then asked him which police force he was representing and he said none in particular, it was a national publication. That was it - got him. Mere mention of a publication confirmed it for me - I told him we were not interested in advertising in any publication and that got rid of him.

Thing is, their use of the words 'on behalf of the police' makes them sound official but no police force would ever have someone ringing round to sell advertising space. In fact another director did fall for this scam a year or two ago and luckily asked me to deal with it but I told him it was a scam before any money was paid out.

So beware folks at work, they are at it again!
