My daughter has just bought a dog, the previous owners of her house had a dog and she want to remove the smells of where the dog used to go to the toilet (which was all over the decking) and choose one place for it to go instead.
we are going to get something to wash the decking down with to make it an easier job.
Is there anything that you could recommend?

Agreed, Jeyes. Stinks though.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

Be careful using strong smells and chemicals if you using all the time. There is some real health concerns. Maybe look at some natural alternatives. Baking soda for example?0

I was going to buy some Jeyes Fluid for cleaning my side yard, but i'm sure when I read the tin it said it wasn't to be used near pets. I now use a squirt of washing up liquid in hot water and scrub it with a yard brush.0

You will be fine using any household disinfectant or diluted Jeyes, provided you hose it down afterwards, but look out for where the stuff will go when you do!
The whole point is to make the decking stink of something other than dog cr*p, so that from a canine POV it doesn't smell like a toilet. It probably will from your human POV, but there's a whole winter for that to dissipate, by which time the dog will be trained (hopefully!)0 -
things that go cloudy in water are toxic to cats and dogs (jeyes, zoflora etc) - and often contain ammonia (as does bleach) which can actually encourage the dog to think it is indeed a toiletting place.
However, if you use biological washing powder or liquid in hot water, the enzymes in this break down the proteins which make up the scent, and remove any smells which will encourage the dog to use it as a toiletting area - however, it must be Bio washing powder or liquid (not non-bio!)0 -
Anti-bacterial spray - saw that on Kim & Aggie's programme for getting rid of cat pee smell. If it gets rid of that smell it'll get rid of owt.0

In that case, it is odd that Jeyes own fact sheet gives one use as 'disinfecting kennels.'

I use Jeyes fluid children's outdoor equipment spray for doing the hen houses. If it's good enough to use on kid's stuff it'll be fine for animals.
But personally I'd use a deck scrubber, or a stiff bristled long handled broom & buckets & buckets of hot soapy water, then give it a good swill down with clean water.0 -

I was just going to suggest this
When we lived with my parents we had 4 dogs between us and they took it upon themselves to do their business in the house. When my parents lived here they used bleach on the floors and everything but it didnt help. When they moved I read about laundry powder and now this is all I use and they havent done anything in the house in the whole year+ since my parents left with their 2 dogs.
I use laundry powder to clean my kitchen floor, laminate floor in the living room, the toilet, to clean the yard too. Its so useful! We usually put a drop of some multisurface cleaner too just to give it a bit of a smell.
Ive since recommended it to family members as one has a problem with a family member missing the loo which made the room smell bad and its sorted it. It really is great lol. And I just use the cheap asda smartprice one which is just over a pound I think and you dont need a lot at all so it lasts ages.Weight loss November 09-January 10: [STRIKE]13lbs[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]20lbs[/STRIKE] 27lbs! :j0
